Pet Transit

However, there is no particular difficulty about bringing pets into the country (apart from the cost). Private arrangements must be made to have the animal(s) shipped commercially (Agent) but this is expensive, typically around £1500 per animal. Pets must be flown outside certain summer dates to avoid hot weather. Many airlines insist you use an Agent, but all aspects are taken care of including any health requirements. With Air Canada there is an option to avoid the high cost and dogs, cats and some other animals may be transported as checked in baggage for around $270 (2014) per animal. However, you must arrange your own veterinary paperwork and pre-register the pet with the airline. This is a relatively easy process and well worth the effort. With some preparation, just turn up at the airport and hand the approved and correctly sized animal crate over then collect at the arrivals hall in Canada. Importing and Exporting
As Great Britain is a rabies-free country there are no longer any quarantine requirements in Canada but to ensure a trouble free experience certain documentation is required such as an up to date EU Pet Passport, Certificate of Freedom from Rabies, a letter from a vet stating the animal is fit to fly and the vets inoculation and treatment card is also recommended. Present these on check in, and at Customs/Immigration on arrival and all will be well. The following links will yield all the required information:
