Work Permits for Spouses

Action:
Complete the “Application – Military Exchange/Posting Dependant’s Application for Work Permit” sent to you by the Exchange Officer & Visits Administrator in order for your dependant to be issued with a ‘work-in-principle’ letter to show to Immigration Officials upon entry into Canada. This letter tells the CBSA that they are entitled to a fee-exempt Work Permit. This will be a restricted work permit which does not allow the holder to work in education or healthcare.

Info:
If your spouse wishes to work in the field of EDUCATION in Ontario, they will need a different Work Permit to the one that is fee-exempt. This is obtained ta the expense of the EO/EO dependant and cannot be claimed back.

Your spouse may need to apply to have their current ‘restricted work permit’ changed to be an ‘open work permit’ which would allow them to work in the fields of education or health care:

Sin

Action:
Once your dependant has a Work Permit, they can apply for a Social Insurance Number (SIN card) which is necessary in order to be employed in Canada. The SIN card can be applied for online or at a Service Ontario office.
